Paul Reid

Head of the International Slavery Museum, Liverpool

Paul's 35-year career has progressed from youth and community work through local democracy, community-led regeneration, heritage leadership and the arts. Firmly committed to community sector development, Paul pushes the boundaries to realise big ideas.


He is in the process of completing a two-year contract as Head of the International Slavery Museum (ISM) in Liverpool, where he is the Client Lead on the development stage to redevelop the museum as part of the Waterfront Transformation Project.


He will continue to advise as an International Slavery Museum Associate for National Museums Liverpool and looks forward to taking up a new position as Director of Innovation for the Ideas Foundation.

Before these positions, Paul was the Director of the Black Cultural Archives (2006 - 2019), the UK's first national multi-disciplined Black heritage institution. In 2019, he launched Disrupt Space Ltd, an arts agency to support emerging Black visual artists to realise their creative potential.


For the London Borough of Lambeth, Paul was the Capacity-building Third Sector Manager, Brixton Town Centre Manager and Senior Youth Worker who specialised in supporting Black young people.


He is a Founder Member of New Initiatives Youth and Community Association (NIYCA), where he Co-Founded the ORIGIN Rites of Passage Programme, supporting young men (13+) of African and Caribbean descent in their transition to adulthood.


Paul sits on the Management Board for the Black Unity Bike Ride and is passionate about the health and well-being benefits of cycling.
