As Chief of Staff for global public health organisation JSI, neuroscientist and thought leader Dr Sylvia

Bartley works to improve the health of individuals and communities across the world. She was appointed to the role in November 2022, and as an executive she has business departmental responsibilities, working with leaders to maximise their strategic, communications, operational and partnership strengths.


JSI operates in 50+ countries, with more than 200 projects on all aspects of global public health, supply chain, healthcare strengthening, data and digital healthcare, technical assistance, and health equity.


In June 2022, Sylvia retired from a 20-year role with Medtronic, the world’s leading healthcare technology company, where she worked to create opportunities for minoritised individuals living with chronic diseases to receive access to medical technologies.

In 2021, she won the Medtronic Human Resources Stewardship Award for contributions to the George Floyd response team and Medtronic’s DE&I commitments and was elected President of the board of directors for Black Women Rising.


Sylvia is the host of the podcast and radio show, The More We Know Community Show, in which she speaks to insightful changemakers. The show reaches around 11,000 people per month in seven countries, including the USA, UK and Jamaica.


She is also a recipient of a 2014 Bush Foundation Fellowship, awarded for extraordinary achievement and potential to strengthen the community.
