Construction Associate, Non-Contentious (NQ-1PQE)

Role and Responsibilities

  • Acting for a range of clients including developers, landlords, funders and contractors.
  • Assisting with the preparation and negotiation of construction documentation, including consultants' appointments, building contracts (based on standard forms), letters of intent, collateral warranties, third party rights notices, parent company guarantees and performance bonds.
  • Assisting in relation to the construction aspects of real estate transactions (commercial and high value residential), property finance and corporate transactions, including due diligence and the preparation of due diligence reports, raising and replying to enquiries.

Skills/Experience

A good foundation in non-contentious construction law. At least 6 months experience gained during a training contract. Trained and qualified with a reputable City law firm or large national firm equivalent.

  • Newly qualified, with up to 1 years' PQE.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Exposure to working for developers, investors, lenders, contractors and consultants in the following sectors: housing (including prime/super prime central London and the branded private rental sector), retail, commercial, student accommodation, education and retirement homes.
  • Familiar with the various methods of construction procurement and good knowledge of all the standard forms of construction contract, including JCT and NEC.
  • Some experience advising on the construction aspects of agreements for lease, facility agreements and forward funding agreements would be an advantage.
  • Good drafting and negotiating skills. Experience assisting in drafting and negotiating amendments to the standard building contracts and working on bespoke agreements, including assisting with preparation of precedent documents.

Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Brand, Regional Marketing Managers and Managing Director on the implementation of global Marketing strategy and annual plan. Manage and maintain current social media channels and advise on new areas of development in support of wider social media content strategy to drive commercial growth. Content creation and upkeep of the company website (including the creation of digital graphics) in line with wider digital marketing strategy. Produce data driven monthly digital reports around social media, website and PPC campaigns, and make recommendations with defined action plans around improvements and new initiatives. Take a leading role in managing external SEO and PPC agencies to drive parent company’s global website traffic to our company’s website.

The role will involve advising a range of corporate institutional and high-net-worth individual clients on all aspects of corporate taxation. There will also be the opportunity to advise on a range of real estate taxation matters. The role will involve advisory work and both advising on and implementing transactions with direct and indirect Tax issues including; M&A transactions, corporate finance and investment funds. There may well be opportunities to advise on IR35, gaming duties, VAT planning.

The successful candidate will have an interest in advising on both personal and corporate tax. They should have experience of the tax aspects on the following below: • M&A transactions and the personal tax implications of such transactions • Corporate Finance • Property Transactions The role will involve advising on direct and indirect tax issues, cross border structuring and strategic advisory work for long established clients of the firm.

To manage all client work allocated by the Partners and other solicitors within the Group and sometimes across the wider Firm. To ensure that all client work is progressed in a timely fashion and that the client is kept regularly informed on progress and costs. To demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal skills in order to meet the drafting and presentation aspects of the role. To ensure the confidentiality and security of all of the Firm's client documentation and information. To demonstrate excellent organisational and prioritising skills to meet the demands of challenging and commercial internal and external clients. To demonstrate a willingness to support clients out of hours and on weekends (on occasion), providing urgent round-the-clock advice. To be active in promoting the services of the Firm, in liaison with the Head of the Competition & EU Group and other Partners. To take a keen interest in undertaking business development activities both internally and externally.
